There is a lot to be said about the differentiation between a reviewer and a critic and for me it isn’t the publication that makes the writer. Important minds do not need substantiation via established publications’ praise and patronage – reviewers may seek this, but true critics don’t. That is why by far the most interesting, judicious, and intellectually stimulating writing on how fiction is, why it has become, and where it is going, can be found at Stephen Mitchelmore’s This Space.
A true critic if ever there was one.
